The county was named for the local crop Citrus County is one of 67 counties in Florida. The county is in the Homosassa Springs metro area. The estimated population in 2004 was 130,465. This was an increase of 10.48% from the 2000 census. In 2002, the per capita personal income in Citrus County was $23,341. This was an increase of 22.2% from 1997. The 2002 figure was 76% of the national per capita income, which was $30,906.
